So based on the picture of the aftermath, who wants to guess what happened to me while I was driving today?
Do I dare offer up a meaningless reward as a bonus?
UPDATE: And we have a winner. Hood release failed and it folded b ack like it was an empty Miller can.
The pucker factor was so real, so my seat may too be damaged now, but thank God I had my window open so I could immediately Ace Ventura it to a safe stop.

Deer?

Not enough poop or blood to be a deer hit.
Going to go with “backed into by a taller vehicle”.

Making friends with the neighborhood deer?
What do I win?

Your truck got punched in the face by a tow truck.

This is interesting, I doubt it’s a deer strike, as I’ve tapped and smoked a deer before. This seems more human natured stupidity. You don’t just detach a grille and have it intact with a wildlife strike. It has to be more redneck involvedment.

Hood release broke

It’s really pretty obvious what happened.

And we have a winner!!!
Flipped the hood back just like in the movies. Boy did that have a sudden pucker factor attached to it when it decided to detach on me! Once I got off the road I had to climb up on the cab to get enough leverage to get to back shut.

Oh damn!

You learned where NOT to connect the tow strap?

No animals were harmed in the destruction of this grill and hood.

There was literally zero redneck or "send it" moments.

Luckily, or unluckily, this was a single vehicle event.
![]() 04/07/2020 at 22:20 |

Nope. It was a component failure that led to said damage.
![]() 04/07/2020 at 22:21 |

And the safety catch failed too???

Nopes. No furry creatures were harmed.

I had that happen to me in my Cherokee. It’s pretty redneck pulling over to put your hood down.
Bent the hood a bit and squashed the plastic cowl.

Yep. I guess she’s getting just a little bit more rusty than I knew she was. It could have been bad.
Imagine driving an within a half second you can’t see shit. If it wasn't beautiful out today and I had I not had the window open...

You were attacked by an angry Amish gang?

One instance you’re motoring along enjoying the ball of fire in the sky for a change, and next I can’t see shit. Is it bad that my first thought was “Fuck! She rusted a lot more than I thought over this past winter!” Which was immediately followed by “ Oh yeah, I should stick my head out of the window now because I can’t see anything other than where the bird shit on the center of my hood.”
![]() 04/07/2020 at 22:43 |

Damn, that’s scary. How long did it take to get your heart back into your chest?

So mine was I pop ped the hood before leaving work. It was ok and then flapping with the catch, and before I could pull over to slam it shit it flipped up, slammed on the brakes and the hood slammed down harder than I could have ever sent it.
When I pulled over, re-popped hood, checked windshield, realized cowl was cracked, slammed hood closed, hulk bashed it to test, didn’t release, continued home.
I think mine was more of getting stuck I the open position than coming undone. I quit driving it shortly after for reasons. Hood is still bent and pops against what’s left of the cowl upon opening.
current resting place, with less parts than picture.

Most hoods are designed so if you duck down you can look through the ‘crack’ between the cowl and the back edge of the open hood? Did the windshield shatter as well? Can’t tell in the
pic.

Damn...
As mine sits now I have no worry about it flipping up again. Getting it open again will be another story. I bent it down pretty darn good to make it home. Tomorrow night will test out my "body skills" to see if I can even get the hood straight. I can always the the hood down.

Luckily the windshield took a hit but no crack or shatter. That would have really made today bad.
I could see just a tiny bit through the opening , but with how high she rides it was basically useless. Being 6'8" helped as I rubbernecked it to the side of the road.
My other saving grace was clear road ahead and behind. Shit happens.... ..to rusty old trucks.

If you message me a mailing address I can s end you an automotive themed card with stickers/decals in it.

There was a recall for that. Gimmie VIN. I check.
